[livejournal.com profile] old_corbie posted the other day with a list of her top 10 bad guys. In moments between workhell, I've been pondering this quest for the ultimate Bad Guy. But I think I need more input. Plus, I'm in pain and bored, and need distraction.

So...

Or Count Grendel from the Doctor Who : The Androids of Tara. "Next time, Doctor, I shall not be so lenient!" he says, as he escapes by jumping off the battlements of a castle, having just been totally defeated.

I can only vote for one? Pah, have a top ten, in no particular order:

Sephiroth
Gabriel - Prophecy (Christopher Walken)
The Devil - End of Days (Gabriel Byrne)
Satan - Paradise Lost
Kaiser Soze
Agent Smith - Matrix
The White Witch (Tilda Swinton)
Dracula (Gary Oldman)
Hans Gruber - Die Hard (Alan Rickman)
The Sherriff of Nottingham - Robin Hood (Alan Rickman)

Mr Rickman's a very popular choice...

There may have to be a second round here. Bad guy deathmatch. :)

Yeah. Can I treat 'Alan Rickman' as a single choice, and add Jubal Earley (Firefly, 'Objects in Space') too?

Alan Rickman deserves to be a single choice.

I'm failing to narrow my list down below 15...

Rickman was great, and i'd go for 'best' bad guy, but the chap from Kiss of the Dragon is still the worlds most evil man - you start off with 'corrupt French policeman' and go downhill a LONG way from there!

Tell you what, take all the popular suggestions, pair them off randomly, have people pick a winner for each and slowly narrow it down to a single Bad Guy of Bad Guys.

Bad Guy Deathmatch. With some extra thrown in just because.

Is a plan...:)

I considered Earley, but I couldn't remember his name.

I like my villains to have nice snappy quotes (grin) so here's my first selection

Alan Rickman as either the Sherriff of Nottingham "You - my room, 10:30 tonight. You - 10:45. ........ And bring a friend" or "That's it then. Cancel the kitchen scraps for lepers and orphans, no more merciful beheadings, and call off Christmas." or indeed "Why a spoon, cousin? Why not an axe?" , "Because it's DULL, you twit, it'll hurt more".

Or as Hans Gruber in "Die Hard" - "I wanted this to be professional. efficient, adroit, cooperative, not a lot to ask. Alas, your Mr. Takagi did not see it that way, so he won't be joining us ................... for the rest of his life."

*************************

Auric Goldfinger

James Bond: "Do you expect me to talk, Goldfinger?"

Goldfinger: "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die!"

*************************

or Prince Rupert of Hentzau (Prisoner of Zenda)

Rupert of Hentzau: "Why don't you let me kill you quietly?"

or

Rupert of Hentzau: "I see you want to let the drawbridge down. I just killed a man for that".

Rudolph Rassendyll: "An unarmed man, of course".

Rupert of Hentzau: "Of course!"

Just remembered another one:

Rosalinda Celentano as Satan in "The Passion of The Christ". No lines. Barely even a part. But she's just there, beautiful, but androgynous. In the background. Watching. Waiting. You get such a sense of power from her. Bets bit of the film.

Hmm... there seems to be a certain luciferian theme to my suggestions. Wonder why?
