There goes another institution...
Aug. 26th, 2006 08:48 amThe utter utter bastards have sold the Intrepid Fox. Behind the Landlords back. It's been his home for 17 years and he and his staff have been given three weeks to get out. The complete tossers.
It's been a long time since I've been anywhere near the Fox on a Friday or Saturday night, as you just can't move in there at those times, and I'm not fond of that so much, but I've been fond of the quieter evening, or afternoon or, more recently, post haircut (hairdressers is just round the corner) drink in there for more years than I care to remember. It's the FOX! You can't not have the Fox...
There's a drive for petitions and complaints and stuff going on. They're trying to get the building listed as it's been a pub for over 250 years, and is a 'local interest' type thing, and other such things. I'm not sure they hold out much hope as they failed to tell the Landlord about the sale until the contracts had been signed, but hey. Details below cut.
I shall go curse Corporate profit-wank now.

'As some of you may have already heard, the Intrepid Fox has been sold behind Pat's (the owners) back to more of the capitalist bastards who are intent on ripping the soul out of everything so they can make more money than they can ever possibly need whilst well and truly shafting those of us who slave away on minimum wage so earn enough money to pay our rent and buy some booze.
Pat has lost his home of 17 years and we have all lost our jobs. And they've given us three weeks to pack up our stuff and get out.
We are trying everything we can to stop this happening, including trying to get it listed as it has been a pub for 250 years, but as they waited until the contracts had been signed before telling us because they knew we'd put up a fight our hopes are not exactly high.
Please please please write a letter of anger and complaint to our head office (the ones that sold it) and tell them what you think! I don't need to tell you about the history of that place - it's an institution in the rock music scene! We are in the process of preparing a petition which will be doing the rounds as soon as it is ready.
The address HO is:
The Director

Please if you want to complain do it TODAY. I know how easy it is for everyone to get up in arms but never get round to doing anything about it. My friend is being thrown out of his home and I don't think that's right.'
If you have been to London you would of been to or hear about The Fox www.myspace.com/intrepidfox

Date: 2006-08-26 12:28 pm (UTC)I'm not sure about their theory about writing to the people who've already sold it though - presumably they now have no responsibility for the property? Better finding out who the new owners are and writing to them.
