What is it with UK murderers and ridiculous claims these days?

I didn't stab her 31 times in the neck and head! She did it herself!

Do you think there was some kind of workshop?

I believe it's known as the C.S.I. effect. It makes them think jurors will buy it if they suggest some ludicrous Deus Ex Machina way the victim could have been killed that didn't involve them stabbing said victim thirty times.

After all, 'that's what happened on TV'.

Unfortunately though, in some cases it seems to work.

I'm rather glad that UK jurors seem to have more brains than that. At the moment, anyway.

I suspect it may be the inbred national cynicism.

Yeah, we don't tend to believe people even when they're innocent, half the time. :)

Yeah, let's hope it stays that way...

its just bonkers isn't it. I am glad they have got someone - i drive past the roebck every day - it was awful when it happened - the whole place was out of bounds for days - and then there was the horrible police 'have you seen' posters...

even if you could get past the pain - by the time a knive has gone in you 30 times - i would have thought you would have passed out through blood loss

Also, there's his comment about how she only did it 14 times. So where did the other 17 wounds come from?

even from the transcript he sounds like a deluded arrogant fuck

And if you invite someone out for a date and she suddenly pulls out a knife and starts stabbing herself repeatedly, do you actually count how many times? That alone would be sick.

It was his knife, but she grabbed it off him when he got it out to stab himself, apparently. I know I always try to stab myself on dates.

And yes, the counting. Not "Oh god, she's stabbing herself, I must stop her!" but "One, two, three, four..."

He did tyry to stop her though:

"I stepped forward to put my arms around her," he said.

Though if this doesn't sound like enough he did then go on to make the excellent point:

"What am I going to do, use my martial arts to get the knife out of her hand?"

Clearly having made this point we can all see that he had no choice but to watch and make sure he knew how many times she stabbed herself for the inevitable inquest.

I'm actually quite moved! Amazing... Not only is HE being released, but it looks like a lot of the other people who were stuck there on ridiculous charges have been as well!

Surely these people must realise that not only do the press and the rest of the country go "What?!", but their judges and juries will also go "What?!"?

If it wasn't so tragic it'd be pure comedy; "Well yes, I did take the knife with me, because I was feeling suicidal. But it fell out of my sleeve and she picked it up and stabbed herself loads. I would have stopped her but I was kinda surprised."

I am kind of glad none of these people have gone with the guilty plea. I'm partially convinced that there is some kind of "bizzare defence" competition going on.
