Had to ring Retna's NY office....

They don't have hold music...

No, they have adverts. For anti-baldness lotion, vacuum cleaners and car insurance.

I would have hung up, but it was one of those...horrified fascination moments.

I remember some years ago - shortly after privatisation - one of the phone companies mooted doing that here. They do it in Scandinavia as well - free or cheaper phone calls in return for advert breaks :)
