The Earth gets hit by waves just as potent as the ones created and we are all still alive and well. If a black hole/fire/blah was to be caused by the process they can fill up the tunnels with foam in 15 minutes. It'll take them quite a few rotations to get the molecules to the speed they desire during which it can be shut down.

There have been serious studies into the impact of the LHC thank you very much and I remain calm and collected. Apart from Shrieking PENTAQAURK in my head quite often, or the sincere delight I experience at the thought of a Higgs Boson ...or possibly the Island of Stability theory getting more impetus.....or even just the strange and bizarre things that could occur....

The Large Hadron Collider gets switched on in the v early hours of Friday morning. This is under Switzerland, and will either make science geeks very excited as it unlocks the mysteries of the universe, or create a black hole and suck the planet into it.

I love science. Mysteries solved, or DEAD. No messing around. :-D

Instead I crunch for Einstein@home. So maybe at the same time we'll find the Higgs Boson and gravitational waves.
