Indeed, the American tendency to avoid possible insult at all costs is excruciating at times. They seem to swing between extreme arrogance and extreme... hmmm, I can't think of the right word atm. But I suspect their desire to appear "sensitive" to others actually stems from that self same arrogance, "now lets not upset the *foreigners/natives/women/gheys/blacks/Muslims* they get offended so easily".

No, we are not banning the word drought.
We have had major weather issues for years- some places have gone without significant rainfall for 7 years. We do have major issues with depression amongst the farming communities- lots of suicide :(
But I would imagine they probably mean when counselling someone lets try and avoid the word "drought" or some such.
Thankfully we aren't too keen on tip toeing 'round when it comes to language, although at times we can be too harsh- the old "pull your socks up, it could be worse" type of thing.

LOL, if we banned the word drought our weathermen would be screwed, they'd have nothing to report ;)
